Cada año la ceremonia de la Premios Óscar, que se encarga de premiar lo mejor del cine. De esta forma, se premia a actores, directores, guionistas, músicos, diseñadores de vestuario, y todos los demás integrantes y áreas involucradas en la creación de un largometraje. Por supuesto, también eliges el La mejor películay resulta ser la categoría que más expectación genera.
La categoría a la mejor película está presente en el Premios Óscar desde su primera entrega en 1929. Sin embargo, en ese momento no se llamaba así y se había dividido en dos categorías: Película Sobresaliente y Mejor Calidad Artística de Producción. Sin embargo, esta última categoría fue rápidamente eliminada.
Luego, de 1930 a 1940, la categoría pasó a llamarse Producción Sobresaliente y de 1941 a 1943, Imagen Sobresaliente. Desde 1944 hasta la actualidad, se llama como lo conocemos hoy: La mejor película. Pero cualquiera que sea el nombre que haya tenido la categoría, cada año una película logró reclamar ese título.
